NYX vs Sonia Kashuk Makeup Remover FACEOFF!

I did a review on Sonia Kashuk makeup remover a few months back (full review here) and NYX was brought up amongst the comments to try out in place of it. So naturally as a beauty blogger, I went to seek out the infamous NYX makeup remover and see if it holds water next to my beloved Sonia Kashuk. =) Wanna find out what I know? Let's continue on, shall we?

First, let's do a full review on NYX before we do a faceoff.

Price: $6.00 (if during NYX 50% off sale - $3)

Where to purchase: Cherryculture
Size: 2.8 fl oz.

Ingredients: Water, cyclomethicone, Isohexadecane, Butylene Glycol, CI 61565, SodiumChloride, Poloxamer 184, Benzyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Sodium Citrate, Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA,Citric Acid, Dipropylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa (rice) Hull extract, Vigna Radiata Seed Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Fruit extract, Carica Papaya Fruit extract

Consistency: same as the SK remover - it has the oils separated from the water and mix to combine the ingredients.

Smell: a pleasant citrusy scent to it

What it claims: Cleanse, nourish, and purify your face with NYX Makeup
Remover. You deserve it.

What it actually does: It's pretty good with removing the makeup as well as the waterproof mascara. However I do feel as if it has a bit too much oils compared to SK makeup remover.

Skin Type: All types

Likelihood of Repurchase:
I would most likely repurchase it again bc it is a small container that's easier to carry around when traveling but only when it's on sale again. Otherwise it might not be worth the price when the difference between the two bottles are $.24 at full price.

Ratings: (4) out of 5 cosmos (took off 1 star bc of the oily factor)

Now for the FACEOFF

The contestants
Fiberwig mascara
(Japanese mascara brands are known to be hard to remove)

First up - Sonia Kashuk remover - removed clean, no residue
Nyx makeup remover did the same!

Final Thoughts:

Both removed the Fiberwig effortlessly with a few swipes and gone with no smudges. The only difference I see between the two is that NYX has more oils and more ingredients in the bottle compared to Sonia Kashuk makeup remover and yet both yield the same results. As the saying goes, less is more.

As mentioned before, the only price difference between the two when compared at full price is that SK's makeup remover is $.24 higher than NYX. If that's the case, I'd go for SK makeup remover bc one, I can find it at any Target near you and two, it's less oily in comparison. The only time I would get NYX makeup remover is when NYX has the 50% sale, which makes it worthwhile to pick up online, but even then I'd have to put $40 worth of products on Cherryculture to get free shipping. However, I can't complain that the packaging is definitely great for traveling but now that I have one, what's to say that I can't just replace the finished bottle with my Sonia Kashuk makeup remover and avoid the hassle of ordering online and waiting for the product. =P

The choice is yours of course. I merely dish out the reviews and it's up to you to make an informed decision. =)

great face off!! Thanks Mel!! When they're soo similar in price and payoff, I'd go with the one with less oils too! :)

from what i understand, most japanese mascara brands are waterproof.. they just don't state it.. and i always use waterproof mascaras. these makeup removers work on those as well.
